In the past two weeks Ben has made an unprecedented slew of posts. I have enjoyed taking a backseat and watch his creativity and excitement communicate through this forum.
My work is equally engaging to me, but quieter. I don’t have beautiful photographic images from every day at the office, and a lot of the information I am privy to at International Justice Mission is confidential—client to lawyer, lives-at-stake, legal ramifications confidential.
However, there is still a lot to be said. Stories about the faithful people I work with who put their safety at risk to rescue children from abuse and oppression. Stories about my modest roll in communicating about this work.
For now, you must be content with a more whimsical update.
What I might be doing:
-Working on law school applications. This process is a bear. I admire anyone who has ever gone to law school.
-Continuing my eternal search for an upholsterer who can acquire the foam and craft the covers for our new living room cushions. Who knew it could be so hard?
What I might like to be doing:
-Waving my Zippo high in the air at an Arcade Fire concert. I have had an album from this band for four years, but I never got it until the past two months. My current amour is all the better for the long wait.
What I am doing:
-Right now the first of two pumpkin pies is baking in the oven. We have committee meetings tomorrow at the office in
preparation for our big client Christmas party, and my fellow intern and I promised everyone we
would bring Thanksgiving-themed treats.
After six hours in the kitchen (tonight's festivities included a creamy mushroom soup for supper and a round of chocolate chip cookies), we are regretting that we didn't just promise Kentucky Fried Chicken. It is possible that people might have liked that better, anyhow. In a fit of nostalgia I have persisted in making pumpkin pies, despite being told told that Filipinos don't like pumpkin as a dessert--everyone thinks of it as a vegetable and it is available year-round. We shall see.

So what did they think of your vegetable dessert? My green tomato/apple pie that I told you I was going to make turned out quite well. It turns out vegetables can be dessert!
